Things didn’t start out great for the Blue Devils in Friday night’s game against Woodland.

Just three plays into the game, Woodland would make a huge statement by getting on the board on a three yard run, which
would set the tone for the game for the Wildcats.
The Blue Devils would get their opportunity to respond in good field position after the ensuing kickoff sailed out of bounds.
However, an interception on third down from quarterback Dylan Silver would put the Wildcats in excellent field position on
the Blue Devils side of the field.
The Wildcats drive was killed by penalties and a stiff Blue Devil defensive line, resulting in a punt four plays later.
Some power running by the Blue Devils would result in the Blue Devils first long drive of the game, driving deep in Wildcat
territory. With a 3rd and goal from the eight yard line, the Blue Devil offense needed to rely on the passing game, but they
were only able to get to the 5-yard line.
Facing a tough decision on fourth down, the Blue Devils went for the touchdown and came up short after running back
Jermaine Campbell was stopped in the backfield.
Two plays later, the Wildcats would fumble and Model linebacker Daniel Jolly would come up with the ball, resulting in a
pivotal turnover.
Again, the Blue Devils would get deep in Wildcat territory. Even with a face mask penalty that helped the Blue Devils, the
Wildcats would come up with an interception inside the 5-yard line, resulting in heat another backbreaking turnover.
For the third straight drive, the Blue Devils would begin inside the Wildcats 40-yard line, and running back Jermaine
Campbell would start the drive with a 12-yard run. Campbell would score two plays later on a 26- yard touchdown run to
even the game at 7 a piece.
The Wildcats took less than 10 seconds to respond to the touchdown, taking the ensuing kickoff all the way back for a
touchdown to give them a 14-7 lead.
A three and out by the Blue Devils coupled with a bad punt would give the Wildcats possession inside the Blue Devil 40-yard
line. The Blue Devils defense would hold the Wildcats to a 4th and 14, and the Wildcats couldn’t capitalize on a pass to the
end zone, so the Blue Devils would take possession again, this time needing to go 75 yards in just over a minute before
halftime. The Blue Devils would let the clock run out and head into the locker room trailing 14-7.

The Blue Devils would open up the second half with the ball, looking to get some momentum started for the second half of
the game. Jermaine Campbell proved to be the Blue Devils workhorse on the drive, carrying it on the first three plays of it.
Jeremiah Campbell would then get his carries in, and the Blue Devils offense suddenly found themselves rolling, getting into
the red zone.
Three plays later, Blake Silver would connect on a pass at the 1-yard line, but the Blue Devils would recover it in the end
zone to secure a touchdown to tie the game at 14 a piece.
The Blue Devil defense would stand stiff, but the Wildcats would convert on two pass plays, one on fourth down and one on
second and long, to keep their drive alive.
The Blue Devils would get a huge fourth down stop to begin the fourth quarter, riding their momentum gained in the third
quarter. 70 yards stood between them and the end zone, and they wouldn’t gain ten before having to punt the ball away to
the Wildcats again.
With time winding down, both teams knew that one big play would be the separator in the game, and that play seemed to
happen when when Jeremiah Campbell got his first interception of the season five plays into the Wildcats drive, giving the
Blue Devils possession at the Wildcats 40-yard line. However, they would give the ball right back to the Wildcats after three
plays.
With 5 minutes left in the game, the Wildcats had 95 yards to gain for a touchdown, and were helped with a 15-yard
celebration penalty on the Blue Devils that would have set up a third down attempt.
The Wildcats would continue to drive, crossing the 50-yard line with three minutes left in the game. However, a good pass
rush would give the Blue Devils an opportunity with 1:46 left in the game.
Questionable play calling by the Blue Devils would run the clock down to less than 40 seconds before punting the ball away
to the Wildcats. The Wildcats would run the rest of the clock out, forcing the game to head into overtime.
The Wildcats would get the football first in overtime and on the second play of it, the Blue Devils would get a huge
interception, needing to just get points on the board on their possession to win the game. Three straight run plays would
lead to a fourth down for the Blue Devils, leading to attempt a short field goal to win the game. Both teams’ fans waited in

anticipation as both teams called timeouts before the Blue Devils came out and made his first field goal of the season to
secure a 17-14 Blue Devils victory, their first of the season.
