Bye Week for Rome, Preparing for Region Play

By Austin Butler

The Rome Wolves have had a much needed bye week after a successful start to the season. The Wolves have a 3-1 record on the season thus far and look to build on that momentum going into region play starting this Friday.

Rome will travel to Allatoona to play in what kicks off the region play. Allatoona is coming into the matchup against Rome with a 0-5 start to their season.

Typically Allatoona has fairly been a winning program in recent seasons, however, this season has been a rough start. If Rome faithful knows better, they know that head coach John Reid and staff will not go into this contest overlooking the Buccaneers. Allatoona usually plays tough football and brings some speed to the table.

The Wolves have got to heal up and watch tons of film for the upcoming slate and will be prepare to battle with the Bucs of Allatoona come Friday night.

The next home game for Rome will be the following week on September 29th at Barron Stadium versus Woodstock which will be the first home region game for the Wolves.

This game will feature some really neat festivities called “A Night Of Champions” as they will honor the 1983 West Rome Chieftains state championship team. West Rome won 4 straight state titles, and a National title while accumulating a record of 59-1 in 4 seasons with 3 different head coaches.

They will also honor the 1978 East Rome Gladiators who won back to back state titles in 1977 and 1978.

The celebration will take place at 6:45pm before the Rome Wolves take the field for their matchup.

As everyone may already know, the powerhouses of East and West Rome combined in 1992 to create the now Rome High School. Rome has a couple of state championships themselves in 2016 and 2017. Up until that point Rome had won close to an 80% of their games while making tons of playoff runs with some amazingly talented teams. Now the Rome Wolves continue to be one of the top programs in the state of Georgia.

There is certainly a rich history in Rome for football and a piece of it will be honored that night. If you love history and remember those great teams in the 80s then that is certainly a night for Wolves Nation to come out for.

The Rome Wolves will be on the road at Allatoona this week and will kick off at 7:30pm.
