Rome Smothers Class 7A Pebblebrook
The Rome Wolves and the Pebblebrook Falcons battled it out last season with
the Wolves squeaking a win out 30-28 last season at Barron Stadium. This
season at Barron Stadium the Wolves made sure this one wasn’t going to be a
“nail biter” at their house.
The Wolves would make an immediate statement early as they would take their
first drive down field for a touchdown. Rome would run the ball and gash the 7A
Falcons play after play while Rome QB Reece Fountain would pick apart the
defense in the midst of it.
Rome QB Reece Fountain would toss a beauty of a ball to Rome WR DK Daniel
for a 36 yard touchdown to draw first blood and make it 7-0 early on the first
drive.
Rome would then drive down field once again with a mix of runs and passes to
dissect the Falcons defense to only set up a 2 yard touchdown run by Rome RB
Chance Arthur.
Rome would go right back to the ground and drive down field to set up another
score from Chance Arthur to make it 21-0 early in the second quarter after a 3
yard touchdown run.
A little later in the second Rome would receive the ball on the next possession
and Rome QB Reece Fountain would lead his team down field with the help of
his offensive line and running backs. Fountian would take matters into his own
hands and have himself a touchdown on the ground. Fountain went in from 14
yards out on the ground to make the score a 28-0 lead.
Before the half, Rome would do some work defensively and Rome LB Trey
Scales would take an interception back for a touchdown for the Wolves to make it
35-0 going into halftime.
Rome would come out in the 3rd quarter and the Wolves would standout on
defense once again with an interception return from Rome defensive lineman
Rishard Sullivan to make it 41-0.
Pebblebrook would find themselves on the board after the Falcons QB MySonne
Pickens would toss a pass across the middle to Falcons WR Walter Willis who
would take it into the end zone on a 40 yard play to get themselves a score to
make it 41-7.
Rome would then allow QB Miss Tant to step in and Tant would make a quick
drive down field tossing a 19 yard TD pass to Rome WR/TE Corey Gardhigh.
That would make the score 48-7.
Rome would be balanced in all facets of the game Friday night running the ball
well, throwing the ball well on top of a stingy defense who wouldn’t allow
Pebblebrook any room to breathe. The special teams would step up and make
solid impact in the game as well.
Rome would then run out the clock to call it a night. The final score at Barron
Stadium was Rome Wolves 48. and Pebblebrook Falcons 7.
Rome Wolves will be on a bye week for 9/15/23. However, the Wolves will travel
on 9/23 to face off against the Allatoona Buccaneers in the Wolves first region
matchup of the 2023 season.
Rome looks to continue their winning ways in region play shooting for yet another
region title. It may not be as easy as some may believe due to Rome having a
target on its back for yet another season. However, the Wolves are lead by a
great coaching staff and HC John Reid who keeps the team focused on each
task at hand.
The Wolves will return home the following week to host another region game
against Woodstock on 9/29.
