ROME, Ga. — Two men are facing serious drug charges after an investigation led authorities to uncover a fentanyl distribution operation in East Rome last week.
According to the Floyd County Police Department, Charles Edward Pollard III, 39, and James Terry Mitchell, 58, were arrested on Thursday, October 2, following a coordinated investigation into suspected narcotics activity in the area.
Both men are accused of conspiring to distribute fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid linked to a growing number of overdose deaths in northwest Georgia.
Investigators say the arrests came after several weeks of surveillance and undercover work near a residence identified as a hub for local drug sales.
Officers reportedly seized multiple grams of fentanyl, digital scales, and paraphernalia commonly used for packaging narcotics.
“Fentanyl continues to be one of the greatest threats to public safety in Floyd County,” said a police spokesperson. “Even a small amount can be lethal, and we’re committed to removing it from our streets.”
Pollard and Mitchell were booked into the Floyd County Jail, where they remain held without bond as of Monday.
Both face charges of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, conspiracy to traffic fentanyl, and use of communication devices in the commission of a felony.
The case remains under investigation, and police say additional arrests may follow as they work to identify potential suppliers or distributors connected to the operation.
Fentanyl-related overdoses have surged in recent years across Georgia, with the state’s Department of Public Health reporting a more than 250 percent increase in fatalities linked to the drug since 2019.
