It’s exciting times for Rome High head coach John Reid & the Rome High coaching staff. Why? Simply because they are coaching to play during thanksgiving week.
That is a huge deal for any program or coach to be able to coach and play into thanksgiving week. This means you are deep in the “hunt” in the playoffs. The Wolves certainly look to get their “hunt” on during this next week as they will host a powerhouse team in the Marist War Eagles.
Rome had tough task come into town with a very good Alpharetta team. The big threat was the offense of Alpharetta’s. They have a quarterback who has been invited to the Georgia Elite Classic just as Rome quarterback Reece Fountain has. A head to head matchup between the two quarterbacks.
Alpharetta proved to be a very fast team loaded with receivers and a massive offensive line. Their offensive line averaged a 6’6 to 6’7 height in offensive lineman. This was going to be a task for that great Rome defensive line.
However, it was going to be a task for the big boys from Alpharetta. Alpharetta drove right down field the first drive and scored, showing that they do not fear the Wolves.
Rome would strike offensively on their first drive as well. It quickly looked as if the game was going to be an offensive game but the Rome defense had other words to say about that only allowing the high powered offense from Alpharetta to 14 points.
The Rome defense would hold Alpharetta to well under 100 yards rushing for the entire game.
Rome would make major plays defensively by taking a toll on the Alpharetta offense while the Rome offense continued to hit big play after big play.
Rome would win the second round match up to move on to the third round to face Marist at Barron Stadium in Rome, Georgia.
Player of the week is DeKaylon Daniel
Kickoff will be at 7:30pm for the quarterfinals.
