Wolves Continue Dominance With Win Over River Ridge

The last and only meeting between Rome and River Ridge came two seasons ago in round two of the GHSA state playoffs with Rome losing that first meeting with the Knights.

The last time these two teams met Rome’s roster was full of starting freshman and sophomores. This season was a bit different due to the fact that those freshman and sophomores are now juniors and seniors on the Wolves squad. Revenge may have been on the mind of some of the Wolves, but this was more so another team in the way of the Wolves in the region. Rome would make an early statement in the second meeting all time between the two programs.

Rome has the lead in the region as they are the only unbeaten team in region play in Region 6- 6A. The Wolves would not hesitate to display the reason being, on the first possession of the game.

Three plays in the first possession after taking a sack from river ridge on the very first play, Rome quarterback Reece Fountain throws a 68 yard touchdown pass to Rome wide receiver Will Bray. Bray and fountain have connected a ton this year and continue to be a force week in and week out. This would put the score at 7-0 early with Rome in the lead.

The Rome defense would make a stand and get the ball back to Wolves offense. Right out of the gate would be a 58 yard burst by Rome runningback Jaedon Harmon to set Rome up for the touchdown two plays later with a 9 yard pass from Fountain to DeKaylon Daniel to make it 14-0 first quarter.

The next drive for the Wolves would come from Rome runningback Chance Arthur as Arthur would score a rushing touchdown to make it 21-0 with 11:03 left in the first half.

The Wolves would keep the momentum going as They would reel off a 33 yard touchdown pass to make it 28-0.

The very next series for the Wolves, Vandy commit Martel Hight scores a receiving touchdown for the Wolves to make the score increase to a 35-0 score.

River Ridge’s Ethan Spector would finally help the Knights offense make something happen in the game with a 18 yard pass to Jackson Head for a touchdown. This would make the score 35-7 going into halftime.

Rome would continue the second half in a dominate defense and offensive performance by finishing the game with a 55-7 final.

It’s safe to say that the Wolves came with a vengeance mindset in this second meeting between the two teams. The coaches and players may be looking at it as just one game at a time towards a goal which is more important at the moment.

The Wolves are now 7-1 overall with a 4-0 region record.

The player of the week is Reece Fountain.

Rome will return home to Historic Barron Stadium in Rome, Georgia next week 10/28 to host region opponent Creekview.
