Looking to remain at .500 on the season, the Model Blue Devils would take on region foe, the Fannin County Rebels, Friday night. The matchup had major implications, as both teams are still in the hunt for one of the four state playoff spots that the region is guaranteed every season.

The Rebels would get the ball first to begin the matchup, but the Blue Devils would be the ones that showed out first, as the Rebels ran just three plays before punting the ball away.

The offense wasn’t able to carry on the momentum, hurt by two false start penalties on 3rd down to make a conversion nearly impossible. A punt ensued after three plays.

The Blue Devils defense once again showed their strength on the defensive line by coming away with two straight sacks and forcing another Rebels punt.

The Blue Devils seemed to be able to gain some yards on the ground, but a holding penalty on a run that could have been a first down put the Blue Devils back, and a false start put them at a 2nd and 23 situation. Two straight incompletions and the Blue Devils drive would end abruptly.

The Rebels were in position to be able to gain their first first down of the game on a 3rd and 1, but the Blue Devils would stop them and force a 4th and 1, which they would elect to punt on.

The first quarter would end with a fantastic third down catch by Daniel Jolly, and it would be 1st down to start the second quarter with neither team able to put any points up on the board.

The Blue Devils would use grit on the rest of their drive, taking their time and eventually getting in the end zone on a touchdown pass to make the score 7-0.

Both teams would go back and forth with drives, then the Rebels suddenly found themselves an opportunity after starting with the ball in Model territory with two minutes before halftime. That quickly was vanished as they went three and out and gave the ball back to the Blue Devils with 30 seconds before halftime.

The Blue Devils would run a pass play that would put them in field goal range. Unfortunately, the Blue Devils would throw an interception on the very next play. A kneel by the Rebels would lead the game to halftime, with the Blue Devils heading into the locker room still leading 7-0.

The Blue Devils would start the second half with the ball, and would waste no time moving the ball down the field, moving to the Rebels 30 yard line in just four plays.

They got to the Rebels 11-yard line, but a holding penalty would put them back at a 1st and 20 from the 21-yard line. The Blue Devils were nearly able to convert it, but faced a 4th and 5 from the 6-yard line. They opted to take the field goal, which went through the uprights to make the score 10-0 in favor of the Blue Devils.

After another Rebels punt, the Blue Devils ran two plays before they were deep in Rebels territory yet again, this time looking to build a three possession lead with a touchdown. Facing a 4th and 2 from the 11-yard line, the Blue Devils elected to go for it, but the Rebels defense held their ground and stopped the Blue Devils just inches short.

The Rebels had to do something offensively, and they had 90 yards to do it, but a fumble on the first play of the drive killed all the momentum gained. One play later, the Blue Devils would score from 11 yards out and the Blue Devils would take a commanding 17-0 lead.

Two plays into the ensuing possession, the Blue Devils would recover another fumble and get the ball deep in Rebels territory. Two plays later, Joey Samples would get a 5-yard touchdown run to move the lead to 24-0.

The Blue Devils would get the ball back after three plays yet again with both teams wanting the final quarter to wind down.

The Blue Devils would get the ball back with 2:43 left in the fourth quarter, with intentions being to run the clock out, and they did just that, leaving the game with a 24-0 victory and keeping their record above .500, moving up to 4-3 on the season.
