Blue Devils Can’t Keep Up With Yellow Jackets As Rockmart Takes A 48-14 Victory Over Model

The Model Blue Devils travelled to Rockmart Friday night to take on the Yellow Jackets, looking to move
up to 4-2 on the season,
The opening drive by the Yellow Jackets would lead to a touchdown after a fumble that was recovered
by the offense and ran in from 27-yards out, chewing up over 5 minutes of clock in the process.
A three-and-out would give the Yellow Jackets the ball at their own 38-yard line to begin their next
drive. A 12-yard run on the first play of the drive made it seem like it would be a successful one, but two
straight false start penalties put the Yellow Jackets at 1 st and 20.
Yellow Jacket fans would cheer on just two plays later when JD Davis would break a long run to put the
Yellow Jackets in field goal range. Two plays later, the Yellow Jackets would get their second touchdown
run of the contest and build up a quick 13-0 lead in the first quarter.
With the Blue Devils facing a 4 th and 5 from their own 25 yard line, they decided to punt. However, the
Blue Devils punter lost his footing and fell when he received the snap, giving the ball back to the Yellow
Jackets at their own 15 yard line.
Two plays later, the Yellow Jackets would get their third rushing touchdown of the night from two yards
out.
The Model offense still couldn’t get anything going on offense, punting away again in just three plays,
but a special teams blunder would put the Blue Devils inside of the Yellow Jackets 20-yard line.
The Blue Devils were able to capitalize on the good field position, scoring on a pass to gain some
momentum and make the score 20-7.
The Yellow Jackets used the ensuing drive to slow the offense down and methodically drive the field.
Then, the offense connected on a 30 yard pass to put them inside of the Blue Devils 10-yard line. Two
plays later, Rockmart would get their fourth rushing touchdown of the night from two yards out to make
the score 27-7.
Just when it seemed like the two teams were going to go into halftime, the the Yellow Jackets had other
plans, scoring on a punt return and moving the lead up to 34-7 with 57 seconds left in the first half.
Model would receive the second half kickoff and bring it out past their 40-yard line to set up the offense
with good field position.
The Blue Devils were able to drive it past the 50-yard line, but the Yellow Jackets would force a fumble
and return it for a touchdown to make the score 41-7.
The Blue Devils again couldn’t get anything going on offense and resulted in a punt to the Yellow
Jackets, who then methodically moved the ball down the field and used over half of the third quarter
before scoring from 8 yards out to make the score 48-7.
The fourth quarter was dominated by both teams just running the clock out, with the only major play
being a 54-yard strike by the Blue Devils that would make the score 48-14, and that’s where the score
stayed until the end of the game, with the Yellow Jackets pulling out the victory over the Blue Devils.
