Model Moves To 3-2 With Win Over Murray County

By Brandon Dyer

Model vs Murray County

It was homecoming week for the Model Blue Devils as they faced off against the Murray County Indians Friday night.

The Blue Devils would start off on defense, where they are the Indians alive at the line of scrimmage, forcing two false start penalties and picking up a sack before the Indians punted the ball away.

The Blue Devils offense used the momentum gained by the defense, scoring in just two plays on a 20-yard touchdown run by Daniel Jolly to put the Blue Devils up 6-0.

Joey Samples became a huge playmaker for the Blue Devils early in the game, bringing an interception back to the house just two plays into the Indians drive to push the lead to 12-0, but the extra point would be missed by the Blue Devils to keep the score 12-0.

Again the Blue Devils defense would show out, as they created pressure on all three plays to force another three-and-out.

The Indians defense was able to force a stop, but a good punt from the Blue Devils put them back at their own two-yard line.

With the bad field position, the Indians would quickly have to punt the ball away due to conservative play calling, giving Model possession inside the Indians 30-yard line. A strike by Jake Sanders on the first play of the drive would put the Blue Devils inside the Indians 20-yard line. Two holding penalties would move the Blue Devils back to where they started the drive.

The penalties proved to be too much for the Blue Devils to overcome, and the drive ended with a failed field goal attempt by the Blue Devils.

Brant Pace made the next huge defensive play of the game for the Blue Devils, as he was able to pick off a pass and run it back to the house again to give the Blue Devils an astonishing 18-0 first quarter lead.

The Indians would not gain a first down in the first quarter, and the Blue Devils started to see themselves pulling away early as they led 18-0 at the end of the first quarter.

On the first play of the second quarter, the Blue Devils would score by way of a 35-yard run by Daniel Jolly, his second rushing touchdown of the night. The Blue Devils finally made their first PAT of the game to put the Blue Devils up 25-0.

Even after a penalty on the kickoff that put the Indians at the 30-yard line, they were still unable to cross midfield and wound up punting the ball away to the Blue Devils.

The ground game got going early in the ensuing Blue Devil drive, but the passing attack took over towards the end of it, resulting in a 12-yard touchdown run by the Blue Devils to put them up 31-0 with two minutes remaining before halftime.

Just when it seemed like both teams were ready to just head into the locker room, the Blue Devils connected on a 38-yard pass to put them back in field goal range one last time before halftime.

Good clock management and great reads by Sanders in the final 30 seconds led to the Blue Devils scoring one last touchdown before halftime to make the score 38-0 with 17 seconds left before halftime.

With the Blue Devils holding such a large lead, the second half was dominated by them sending in their second string players and running out the clock.

Jeremiah Campbell got the only score of the third quarter by either team when he broke off a 36-yard touchdown run due to some power running and breaking tackles.

The Blue Devils would get the ball back with good field position, just aiming to run the rest of the clock out and leave with their third victory of the season. They ran it down to two minutes left before turning the ball over on downs inside the Indians 5-yard line.

The Indians would use their possession to run the clock out and end the game with the Blue Devils gaining their third victory and moving to above .500 for the first time this season, sitting at 3-2.
