Carrollton Silences Rome With 23-6 Victory

Austin Butler

Heading into this season it’s been quite obvious who was the favorite in this match-up. The Trojans have the number one quarterback in the nation in the 2026 class in Julian “Ju Ju” Lewis. Lewis is surrounded by plenty of talented players, however, Rome is the more experienced team now with their loaded roster. Arguably the most talented roster in the state of Georgia, the Wolves would go into this game the clear favorite heading down highway 27 to Carrollton, Georgia.

The Wolves wouldn’t start how they are accustomed to starting. Carrollton would drive the ball down feild quickly with Lewis releasing quick throws to move the ball down field in a hurry, keeping Rome defenders on their heels. Carrollton would score first with a 10 yard touchdown pass from Lewis to Albertus to go up 6-0 early. The extra point would be missed by the Trojans.

Rome would go three and out on their first possession with Carrollton making it difficult for their offense to produce early on. Carrollton would then march down field again to cap off a 14 yard touchdown pass from Lewis to Lipscomb to go up 12-0. The extra point was made to make it 13-0 Carrollton early on.

Rome would finally settle in and score to make it 13-6 with the extra point being missed. The touchdown came when Rome quarterback Reece Fountain threw a 52 yard strike to Rome wide receiver Will Bray.

Rome would then make it difficult for the Trojans to score by playing fairly stout defense. The score would remain low throughout the game but Rome could not find any momentum offensive with mistakes, penalties, and missed opportunities. Rome would make it in the red zone several times and not produce any points.

Carrollton would add another 3 points to their score to make it 16-6 keeping it harder for the Wolves to make a comeback as time would pass quickly. Carrollton would then score one more with a 4 yard touchdown run from Trojans runningback Bryce Hicks to make it 22-6. The extra point would be made to make it 23-6.

Rome would not find the end zone again and time would expire to make it a 23-6 final in Carrollton.

Expect the Wolves to get back to the drawing board to clean up mistakes to get back to their winning ways.

Player of the week for the Wolves is Will Bray.

Rome will return back to Barron Stadium on September 9th and will host 7A program Pebblebrook. Kick off time will be 7:30pm.
