Rome Stomps Sprayberry, Set To Host Langston Hughes In Round 2

The Rome Wolves made a major statement Friday night versus their first round
opponent in the Sprayberry Yellow Jackets.
Sprayberry came into this game a pretty good first-round opponent being at a
solid 6-4 record coming in.

In the first series, both defenses stood tall but then Rome would heat up on offense
starting to control the line of scrimmage and eventually air it out- letting the
skill on the outside make plays.
Rome would finally score late in the first quarter and at the end of the first quarter
it was 7-0 with the Wolves on top.

Rome would then put 14 on the board while Sprayberry was still at 0 with 9:46
left in the 2nd quarter due to a Reece Fountain 28 yard touchdown run.
Rome QB Reece Fountain would keep the wheels turning some more as Rome
would go up 21-0 with 7:27 left in the 2nd quarter off of another Reece Fountain
rushing TD. This one was from 51 yards out.
Rome’s defense would then get a feel for the endzone as Rome put
28 on the board off of a Parko Smith (Rome LB) interception return for
touchdown.

Rome would go up on Sprayberry 35-0 with 3:57 left 2nd quarter Reece Fountain
19 yard touchdown pass to Chance Arthur. At this point it was “lights out” for
Sprayberry.
The score would be Rome 42 Sprayberry 0 58 seconds left in the 2nd quarter
after Javarius McDearmont took an 8 yard touchdown run in right before the half.
The second half would be a running clock kind of game.
Rome would score 49 to Sprayberry’s 0 1:57 left 3rd quarter Reece Fountain 50
yard touchdown pass to Rome WR Nic Hester.
Rome’s Joseph Butts would take a 2 yard touchdown run in for 6 to give Rome a
56 to Sprayberry’s 0 score with 7:42 left in the 4th quarter.
Rome would allow the clock to tick and that would make it Rome’s 10th running
clock game this season.
Rome will host state and Nationwide powerhouse Hughes in the second round of
the GHSA playoffs.
This powerhouse matchup will kick off at 7:30pm at Barron Stadium in Rome,
Georgia.
