Rome Eyeing Season Opener After “Rocking” Rockmart In Final Scrimmage

The Rome Wolves have put in the work all off-season and looked to go out and
put a little bit of that to use against a fast Rockmart Yellowjacket team.
Being a scrimmage, neither team revealed their entire playbooks against one
another. However, the scrimmage was still full of exciting plays for Rome.
Rockmart would score first but wouldn’t sniff the endzone again for the remainder
of the game. The Rome defense flew around all night making plays. From
interceptions to sacks, the Rome defense wouldn’t let up.
The Wolves defensive line stood out as it usually does with a few new starters on
the defensive line. Rashad Sullivan, and Jamar Chatman are younger brothers of
former Rome standouts Ja’Quan Griffin and Jamarcus Chatman who are key
players on their respective college teams. Though Sullivan and Chatman
received playing time last season, this will be the first season both will start on
the front four along with returning starts Travon Adams who has college attention
and JT Terrell who’s a NC State commit. It’s safe to say the defensive line is in
hands for this season.
The back end of the Wolves defense was extremely aggressive Thursday night
not allowing many passes to get anywhere. A potential breakout star in the
secondary for the Rome Wolves is defensive back Rae Sykes. Sykes had a
magnificent interception against Rockmart. That’s one to certainly watch out for.
The Rome offense let by four year starter at quarterback, Reece Fountain looked
poise to have a high powered season. Reece Fountain went 17-21 passing, 235
yards, 3 TDs, 19 rushing yards and 2 TDs on the night.
Though the Wolves didn’t reveal the playbook and keeping the plays fairly
simple, the Wolves certainly have some new weapons that will be big threats this
season. Starting with Tinerious Stallings coming from the wide receiver spot.
Stallings wasted no time exploding on to the scene for the Wolves by appearing
all over the field with the ball in his grasp Thursday night. Stallings showed many

flashes of how dangerous he is going to be this season. Stallings racked in 5
catches for 88 yards and 1 TD.
The other “new” weapon for the Wolves is Nick Hester at the wide receiver
position. Hester is one many expect to be a playmaker and Hester left no doubt
of that in a glimpse of what he will do this season. Nic Hester had 4 grabs for 40
yards.
Reece Fountain connected a couple of times for touchdowns with veteren wide
out D.K. Daniel. Everyone seen that duo last season hook up many times for big
plays and scores. D.K. Daniel had 5 catches, 52 yards, 2 TDs. Daniel will be the
leader of the wideout group this season.
The Rome Wolves would eventually top the Rockmart Yellowjackets with a 48-6
final at Barron Stadium.

Rome will look to kick off the regular season next Friday against a loaded Cass
roster in the Corky Kell-Dave Hunter Classic at Historic Barron Stadium. Kickoff
will be at around 8:30p.m. That game will follow Creekside vs. Kennesaw
Mountain which starts at 5:30pm.
Both will be televised on Peachtree TV.
