Armuchee Football: 2022 Indians Season Preview

The 2022 Indians can be described in one word, Young. Armuchee only returns 5 Seniors from the 2021 team that set decade marks in wins, points scored , points allowed, and missed the Class A playoffs by just 3 points. Head Coach Jeremy Green enters his 5th season leading his alma mater and will rely on a strong group of underclassmen as they compete in the new Region 7A Division 1 against some familiar foes.

Three-year starter Chandler Desanto returns at QB. The rising Senior accounted for 1275 yards and 10 TDs in ‘21 and will be counted on to lead an offense that will have a lot of new faces this season. Juniors Easton Jackson and Ryland Steen, and Sophomore Jackson Hightower are slated to get most of the workout in the backfield. The Indians graduated 4 of their top 5 WR’s. Juniors Jacob Seagraves, Mathew Hampson, and Jakson Coonley, and Sophomore Colton Phillips have the potential to be a good receiving core for DeSantos this Fall. Hagen Terry (Jr), the leading returning receiver, is a big, good handed TE and will play an important part in the run and pass game. Can’t forget about the guys that make it work upfront. Logan Hunton, Christian Cox, Tristan Young, Cameron Anthony, CJ Collins, RJ St. Louis, and Cole Bishop are all slated to see time on the OL.

The Indians will be solid at the LB spot. One of the top tacklers from last season and a member of the All-Area Team, Ryland Steen, returns and will be joined by Sam Woodward, Cael Henderson, Alex Hitchcock, Hagen Terry and Jakson Hightower in the rotation. OLB will be filled with Luke Williams, Jackson Coonley, and Evan Hayes.

All Area DB Jacob Seagraves returns after leading the team in interceptions in ‘22 and will be joined in the secondary by Luke Lively, Blaine Ragland, Desanto, and Jaiden Bunch. Upfront Hayden Phillips, Josh Evans, CJ Collins, Cameron Anthony, Caleb Fellows, RJ St. Louis, and Andre Neal will rotate.

The Indians open the season at home on August 19th versus the Gordon Central Warriors. Their other non-region matchups include a trip to former 6A rival Gordon Lee (8/26), a home game vd Union County (9/9), and on the road again at SE Whitfield (9/16).

They are now members of Region 7A Division 1. Their Region home matchups are Chattooga Indians (9/30), Darlington Tigers (10/21), and Dade Co to end the season on Nov 4th. They travel to in County rivals Coosa (9/23) and Pepperell (10/7). They also make a trip to Trion on 10/28.
